Allison, Swim Instructor

Allison has been teaching group and private swim lessons for over 10 years. She has been teaching private swim lessons at EAC since 2006. In 2007, Allison began teaching 5 group swim classes per week. She has helped expand EAC's group swim program to 25 classes per week. She is responsible for the administrative work that comes with having over 200 people in the group swim program.

In 2010, Allison became a coach for the newly formed EAC Dolphins Swim Team. Allison enjoys teaching people of all ages how to swim. Recently, she has enjoyed working with babies as young as 12 months old, children and adult beginners, children preparing for a swim team, adults seeking to add swimming to their workout routine, and adults preparing for triathlons. She stresses proper technique, which leads to easier and more efficient swimming.

Allison wants people feel safe and comfortable in the water. She enjoys working with children who are scared of the water, adults who have had a traumatic swimming experience, and those who have not successfully learned to swim in a different program. Allison does NOT teach using the American Red Cross method, which is commonly used in the United States. First, she focuses on safety and endurance. The first major milestone for all new students is to jump into the pool and kick 20 yards on their back with no help. This helps students feel safe and confident should they ever be pushed or fall into a pool. After accomplishing this goal, students move onto learning backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke, and butterfly.

Working with intermediate and advanced swimmers, Allison can develop a swimming workout for any level and enjoys swimming the workout with her clients. She has developed many individualized programs focusing on, but not limited to, the following: technique work, drills, distance swims, and timed intervals. Allison received her BA in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She holds the following American Red Cross certifications: Adult/Child CPR, Adult/Child AED, Infant CPR, and First Aid. Because she just can't get enough of the water, Allison is also a PADI Master Scuba Diver and PADI Rescue Diver with over 80 dives.
